  • A bracelet should move freely on the wrist without sliding over the hand. As a rule, leave about half an inch of room between the bracelet and your wrist — enough to rotate it, not enough for it to slip off. Chain bracelets sit best with a little more movement, while beaded styles can sit closer.

  • Wrap a tape measure around your wrist just below the wrist bone, then add roughly half an inch for a close fit or a full inch for a looser one. For bangles, measure across the widest part of your hand with the thumb tucked in, since a bangle has to clear the hand rather than the wrist.
